1987 A Groundhog’s Day classic!
If you haven’t yet read Steven Kroll’s It’s Groundhog’s Day, be sure to get yourself a copy at your school or public library! It’s a fun read aloud for February 2nd. You’ll read about Godfrey groundhog and all of his forest friends, including Roland raccoon, who does not want Godfrey to not see his shadow in the spring (meaning an early spring). Find out why and what he does to ensure a longer winter (I love that all the animal characters have alliterative names!). Jeni Bassett’s sweet artwork adds a cozy feeling to the illustrations. Make this classic a part of your Groundhog’s Day picture book collection. If you’re a fan of the picture book classic and newer, rewrite of the book (yes, it was a book first!), Emmett Otter’s Jug Band Christmas, you’ll surely find Its Groundhog’s Day! to be just as charming!
