Hello, Book Loving Friends!
I recently read a charming, little gem of a book and as I wrote about it, I found myself recalling memories of my personal reading journey I loved the book and it has me excited to once again explore this sub genre of nonfiction.
“ To love and be loved is the meaning of life.“
Brave Enough by Cheryl Strayed, the author of, Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, is an inspirational book of quotes. Whether you’ve read Strayed’s other books or not, this is a little gem that you will want in your collection. Don’t bother borrowing it from the library or a friend, you will need your own copy. As I read through mine, I found myself actually dog-earring numerous quotes (and I do NOT usually dog-ear any of my books). There were so many quotes that resonated with me and spoke to my heart. I love to collect quotes but had forgotten how I love books of quotations. My love for them started when I was an undergraduate student and was student teaching with an amazing educator. I was a student teacher in a sixth grade classroom. Each day my cooperating, mentor teacher began the day by sharing a quote, often from a book of quotations, that was organized by theme. After reading the quote aloud, she had a brief discussion about it, with the class. I fell in love with this practice and soon took over selecting and reading the morning’s quote. I can remember visiting my local bookstore to purchase my own book of quotations. I’m not sure what ever became of those books but after reading Brave Enough, thanks to Cheryl Strayed’s wise words, I will once again seek out these charming, little books. “Real change happens on the level of gesture. It’s one person doing one thing differently then he or she has done it before.”
